Provisional figures for January 1978 indicate that the average ratios of pupils per qualified teacher within maintained schools in England were (a) 23.6 for primary schools—including middle deemed primary schools and immigrant centres—(b) 16.9 in secondary schools—including middle deemed secondary schools—and (c) 20.0 for all maintained schools—excluding nursery and special schools.
