§ Mrs. Chalkerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much has been collected in income tax in each of the past two years from pensioners affected by the earnings rule.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonI regret that the available information does not enable this group of taxpayers to be distinguished. The only analysis by age available centrally is that between taxpayers over and under 65. It is therefore not possible to distinguish the women pensioners between the ages of 60 and 65 who may be affected by the earnings rule from other women pensioners aged under 65, nor to distinguish the men between the ages of 65 and 70 who may be affected by the earnings rule from those over 70 or those between 65 and 70 who have retired during the year.
