asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when it is proposed to clean the face of the old Middlesex Guildhall; and what the cost would be.

Formal acquisition of the old Middlesex Guildhall by this Department is not yet complete. However, plans are being made for external cleaning, repairs and painting, which are estimated to cost about £55,000. Subject to acquisition being formally completed, it is expected that work will commence towards the end of the year.
