HC Deb 13 July 1978 vol 953 c679W
Mr. Terry Walker

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many senior police officers of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary have been transferred to civilian duties within the police service in each of the last four years.

Dr. Summerskill

No serving senior police officer was transferred and no officer who has left the police service prematurely was appointed to a civilian post. Of the 545 civilian posts filled since 1974, the number of successful applicants who had retired after police service in the rank of inspector and above was one in 1974, one in 1975, two in 1976, one in 1977 and three in 1978—to 31st May.
