§ Mr. George Robertsonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is in a position to report on the priority to be accorded to negotiating the end to the discrimination against bottled Scotch whisky by the United States Government, in the GATT negotiations which are due.
§ Mr. StrangThe United Kingdom has long sought the removal of the American wine gallon system of assessment, which discriminates against imports of bottled Scotch whisky, and this is one of the Government's principal aims in the agricultural sector of the GATT multilateral trade negotiations. The European Commission has confirmed that it also regards 537W this as one of the Community's priority aims in the negotiations.
