§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Prime Minister, in the light of the growing practice of leaks to the press from Government Departments as witnessed by the divulging of the Boyle committee on top salaries, the report on police pay, 1½ per cent. surcharge on employers' national insurance contributions and the use of the RAF Fairford base by the United States Air Force, whether he will cause an investigation to be made into these leaks to ascertain to what extent civil servants are responsible on payments from the press for their revelations.

§ The Prime MinisterThere are established procedures for dealing with breaches of security, including leaks of official information where these are believed to have occurred. In none of the cases cited, however, do the Government consider that it would be appropriate to institute inquiries.
