§ Lord James Douglas-Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services why he has not implemented section 33 of the Children and Young Persons Act.
§ Mr. MoyleI think the hon. Member has in mind section 33 of the Children Act 1975, which, together with other provisions of Part II of that Act, relates to custodianship orders. The implementation of these provisions would have resources implications for local authorities and the probation and after-care service. We are in touch with the representative organisations concerned about the likely additional work load, with a view to deciding when it may be possible to bring Part II of the Act into operation.
