§ Mr. Stan Crowtherasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he is satisfied with progress in the public sector of the steel industry towards involving the trade 325W unions more fully in the planning and development of the industry in order that crises, such as that which arose on 29th June 1978 over the threatened closure of the Bilston works, may be avoided in future.
§ Mr. Les HuckfieldBoth the Government and the corporation are concerned to improve consultation and involvement. BSC's proposals for a "steel contract" and the consideration my right hon. Friend is currently giving to the appointment of trade unionists as members of the board of the corporation have this object in view.
