The number of whole-time equivalent consultants in traumatic and orthopaedic surgery per 10,000 population in the Mersey region was 0–1 at 30th September 1977. Information about areas and districts is not collected centrally.

Because of the phased introduction of the community homes system, and other changes, the figures for the years 1971 to 1973 are derived from those for children accommodated in approved schools, reception centres, remand homes and other local authority homes. Consequently the figures for these years are not directly comparable with subsequent years.
