asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a statement concerning the possibility of Government support for the application of microprocessors by United Kingdom industry.

Mr. Varley

I shall make a fuller statement later this year when the Government have had the opportunity to consider the report by the ACARD working party on the applications of solid state technology.

In the meantime, my Department is introducing an interim microprocessor application project—MAP—to which an initial allocation of £15 million has been made under the Science and Technology Act 1965. The aim of the scheme is to
