HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 c24W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, why, in view of the savings that would accrue to the Treasury from the revelations of tax evasion, he will not in his forthcoming Budget take action to enable all tax returns to be examined on a similar basis to that now operating for company reports and wills of deceased persons.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

The publication of tax returns would do little to prevent tax evasion and would be a breach of privacy.
