§ Mr. Robert Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Trade how many export credit guarantees for exports to South Africa were granted in each of the years 1970 to 1977; and what was the total value of such guarantees for each year over the same period.
§ Mr. Meacher, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 25th January 1978; Vol. 942, c. 642–3], gave the following information:
Normal ECGD facilities have been available for exports to South Africa during the period 1970–1977, and these facilities have been widely used by exporters. It would not be possible to give details of the number of export credit guarantees issued in this period as ECGD records are not kept in that way, since the great bulk of export business guaranteed by ECGD is covered by means of the comprehensive guarantee system under which an exporter's worldwide turnover is covered by a single guarantee and the exporter is not required to declare individual transactions to the ECGD.
