Total unemployment in Scotland in January 1978 was 203,629 compared with 83,470 in October 1974, an increase of 144 per cent. After seasonal correction, the increase was 110 per cent.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table showing the number and rate of unemployment in each employment exchange in Glasgow; how this compares with the position in October 1974; and if he will express the percentage increase in unemployment comparing January 1978 with October 1974.

The following table gives the information, which takes no account of seasonal differences, for each of the employment office areas in Glasgow City in January 1978 and October 1974. Because the Glasgow City offices, along with Barrhead, Clydebank and Kirkintilloch, form one travel-to-work area, meaningful unemployment percentage rates cannot be given for individual offices.
