§ Mr. Craigenasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will seek to amend the law relating to the position of community councils in Scotland in taking corporate decisions and the status of individual councillors for their actions in pursuing decisions of their community councils; and if he considers the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 requires amendment to safeguard community councils in the exercise of their duties.
383W
§ Mr. McElhoneMy right hon. Friend's understanding is that community councils are in the same position as the numerous voluntary bodies and associations which for many years have carried out activities of the kind which community councils will undertake, without experiencing difficulty over the legal liability of their members. My right hon. Friend is not, therefore, persuaded that there is any need to amend the law relating to community councils.
