§ Mr. Ralph Howellasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimate of the number of single parents and of married couples with dependent children whose earnings from full-time employment are insufficient to claim (a) all, and (b) part, of their tax allowances.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonThe latest information relates to 1975 when, in Great Britain, there were 360,000 one-parent families and 540,000 two-parent families, with dependent children, whose incomes were insufficient for them to get the full benefit of their tax allowances. Of these, 74,000 and 210,000 respectively had heads182W of families in employment. It is not known how many were in full-time employment.
