asked the Prime Minister if he is ready to announce the name of the Chairman of the new Civil Service Pay Research Unit Board.

My right hon. and noble Friend Lord Shepherd has accepted my invitation to be the first chairman of the Civil Service Pay Research Unit Board, which is being set up to safeguard the independence and impartiality of the Pay Research Unit.

I hope soon to be able to announce the appointment of the four other independent Board members who will be chosen to represent a wide range of outside experience including private industry.
