§ Mr. Churchill
asked the Secretary of State for Defence by what statutory authority applicants for premature voluntary retirement may be detained in Her Majesty's Forces against their will for a period greater than six months.
§ Dr. Gilbert
Officers are granted commissions by virtue of the Royal Prerogative and any approval of an officer's application for premature release from service is a matter for the Defence Council's discretion in the exercise of that prerogative on behalf of the Crown. In the case of personnel not holding commissions, their obligations for service are generally812W as set out in regulations made pursuant to Section 2 of the Armed Forces Act 1966.
