§ The Prime MinisterLocal authorities are responsible for preparing plans to deal with the consequences of major accidents and disasters, including those involving radioactive substances. Guidance on specific problems in relation to civil emergencies is given to local authorities by the Government Department most directly concerned. There are arrangements to564W provide immediate expert advice and assistance in cases involving radioactivity. Consideration is being given to the provision of further guidance on contingency arrangements to deal with incidents involving nuclear-powered space satellites.
