asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many pupils attend grammar schools and independent schools co-operating with the education authority in the county of Cheshire.

In September 1977, the latest date for which information is available, 9,962 pupils were attending grammar schools maintained by the Cheshire Education Authority, and in January 1977 the fees of 4,464 pupils attending independent schools or direct grant grammar schools were being wholly or partly paid by the authority.
