§ Mr. Norman Lamontasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the growth rate of the United Kingdom economy in the latest 10-year period in which a comparison can be made with other EEC countries; and whether he will publish a table showing those growth rates.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2nd February 1978: Vol. 943], gave the following information:
The average percentage per annum growth rates of GDP for the current EEC 360W member countries over the period 1967–1976 were as follows:
West Germany 3.5 France 4.2 United Kingdom 1.8 Italy 4.1 Netherlands 4.1 Belgium 3.7 Ireland 3.6 Denmark 3.0 Luxembourgdeg 3.3 *The average for Luxembourg is based on the period 1976–1975.
