HC Deb 02 February 1978 vol 943 cc305-6W
Mr. Madden

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what regulations exist to control the transportation of poisons, including across areas which are catchment areas for water reservoirs; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Horam

The Poisons Rules 1978 contain certain provisions controlling the packaging, identification and segregation of poisons during transport. These require the safe packaging of any poison (for transport) to avoid leakage arising from the ordinary risks of handling and transport. I understand that proposals currently being prepared by the Health and Safety Commission for new general regulations controlling the conveyance by road of certain classes of dangerous substances will extend to poisons.
