asked the Secretary of State for Wales, how many people are currently employed in all of the Government's special employment schemes in Wales.

Figures published by the Department of Employment on 21st November are as follows:

Temporary employment subsidy 9,390
Small firms employment subsidy 1,020
Job release scheme 810
Youth opportunities programme 3,846
Community industry 527
Special temporary employment programme 111
Job creation programme 2,349

The youth opportunities programme figures are based on computer records of claims for payment. From December 1978 the published figures will be based on actual counts made by the careers service. Returns from the careers service during November indicate the number of places filled to be 6,472.
