HC Deb 15 December 1978 vol 960 c682W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what negotiations the Government are undertaking concerning possible financial support to the manufacturing plant of Singer United Kingdom Ltd. at Clydebank; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie:

My Department is in close touch with the company and the unions on proposals for the future of the Singer operations at Clydebank. Depending on the outcome of discussions, we are ready to consider what financial assistance can be given to preserve employment.
