HC Deb 15 December 1978 vol 960 cc491-3W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will now make a statement, embodying the relevant statistics, on the subject of the review which was commenced in last July of the first year's operation of the new indemnity system covering loans from national museums to local museums

Committee, but exclude those at the Science, and Victoria and Albert museums.

announced by her on 12th July 1977 ; whether the original scheme has been modified and, if so, in what respects ; and whether she decided that all existing loans of this character, including those effected before 12th July 1977, should be covered by the indemnity system.

Mr. Oakes:

In reply to my hon. Friend's similar Question on 2nd August —[Vol. 955, c. 371–2]—I gave figures about the operation of the scheme in its first year. The original scheme has not been modified but a number of proposals to extend it are under consideration. Loans effected before 12th July 1977 may be included under the present scheme if they fulfil the specified conditions, but the main purpose of the scheme is to encourage new lending.
