Mrs. Hayman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what would be the saving on staff to his Department if the collection of maintenance for lone parents on supplementary benefit were taken over by another agency for (a) all, (b) 90 per cent., (c) 75 per cent., (d) 60 per cent. and (e) 50 per cent. of all existing cases where his Department currently collects payments ;

(2) what is his estimate of the number of staff required by a Government agency to be responsible for the collection of all maintenance payments to lone parents.

I shall let my hon. Friend have a reply as soon as possible.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many lone parents receive a benefit which (a) precludes them receiving child benefit in- crease and (b) means that receipt of child benefit increase is of no immediate financial advantage; and how many do not fall into either category.
