Mr. Park

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the ratio overall of administrative staff to medical and nursing staff in the running of the health services in England in 1978.

Mr. Deakins:

On 30th September 1977, the most recent date for which figures are available, the ratio of administrative and clerical staff to medical and dental staff employed in the NHS in England was 1: 0.35, the ratio to nursing and mid- ceived at about the same time following a general approach to Members of Parliament by the editor of theNursing Mirror. I have already apologised to my hon. Friend for the delay which occurred in this case.
