asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are giving aid to Sri Lanka where from 500 to 1,000 people are reported to have been killed and a million people rendered homeless by a cyclone.

The Disaster Unit of the Ministry of Overseas Development has already provided immediate relief comprising medical supplies, tents, blankets, polythene sheeting for temporary roofing and diesel generators at an estimated cost of £140,000. Further generators and polythene sheeting at an estimated cost of £90,000 will be sent to Sri Lanka as soon as possible.
