§ Mr. Scottasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will make a statement about the dangers of the Thames flooding and the measures which have been taken to deal with that possibility.
§ Mr. StrangTidal flooding in the Thames estuary and upstream as far as Teddington could arise in certain combinations of weather and tide conditions. These conditions are constantly monitored so that the authorities and the public may be warned if flooding seems imminent. Existing flood defences on the Thames, improved where necessary, have reduced the flood risk significantly but the long term solution lies in the completion of the Thames barrier and associated defences. These arc now under construction by the Greater London Council and the downstream water authorities and are expected to be largely complete by 1983.
