§ 43. Mr. Stanbrookasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is satisfied with the training and qualifications required of drivers of passenger coaches; and if he will institute a review of the standards of competence and hours worked by coach drivers as compared with those required in London Transport.
§ Mr. HoramThe training of drivers of passenger coaches is the responsibility of the industry, assisted by the Road Transport Industry Training Board. I am450W satisfied with the standards applied in the licensing of public service vehicle drivers. I do not propose to institute a review of the standards of competence or of the hours worked by coach drivers, which are now governed either by EEC regulation 543/69, or in the case of regular services, with route lengths not exceeding 50 kilometres (like those of London Transport) by the less restrictive provisions in the Transport Act 1968.
