asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement about the membership of the Royal Commission on the Distribution of Income and Wealth.

The Prime Minister

Yes. The Queen has approved that the right hon. Lord Diamond, F.C.A., should continue as chairman of the Royal Commission on the Distribution of Income and Wealth for a further year from the expiry of his term of office on 31st July 1978.

Her Majesty has also approved that the following members be reappointed for a further year on the expiry of their terms of office on 31st July 1978:

  • Sir Neville Butterworth, D.L.
  • Professor John Greve, B.Sc. (Econ.)
  • David Lea, Esquire, O.B.E., M.A. (Econ.)
  • Deryk Weyer, Esquire.

The basis of Lord Diamond's appointment will, at his request, change from a four-day week to a half-time one, with a corresponding reduction in salary.
