Mr. Alfred Morris

A clothing allowance, currently of £25 or £40 a year, is paid to war disablement pensioners who have excessive wear on clothing. We have no proposals to extend the allowance to new beneficiaries. The cost in England and Wales of paying a clothing allowance to everyone currently registered as physically disabled-including the sensorily disabled-would be about £25 million a year at £25 a year, or £40 million a year at £40 a year. Figures for Scotland are not available. The cost would increase if registration went up as a result of the introduction of the allowance.
