§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the fact that a citizen of another country obtains employment in his country's embassy in Great Britain, and remains in the country for a long time, although he originally entered as a student, is sufficient reason to grant him and his family the right to stay in the United Kingdom.
§ Dr. SummerskillUnder Section 8(5) of the Immigration Act 1971, a person who has been given leave to enter the United Kingdom for a limited period, and who by reason of his subsequent employment as a member of a diplomatic mission becomes exempt from immigration control, ceases to enjoy that exemption when his employment ceases and is not by reason of his employment regarded as having been settled here. Members of his family are similarly provided for in the Act.
