Mr. Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what numbers of therapeutic abortions occurred in National Health Service hospitals in each of the years from 1967 to 1977 inclusive; and what was the average duration of stay in hospital for each of those years for National Health Service patients and non-National Health Service patients, respectively;

(2) what was the estimated total number of discharges from National Health Service hospitals after abortion in England for each year from 1967 to 1977 inclusive; what number was following therapeutic abortion; and what number following other categories of abortion;

(3) what numbers and percentages of births took place in National Health Service hospitals in each year from 1967 to 1977, inclusive; and what was the average duration of stay in hospital for each of those years;

(4) what were the numbers of illegitimate births in England and Wales for each of the years 1967 to 1977, inclusive.
