§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the case of a housewife from Walton-on-Thames, in full-time employment, with a housebound husband, who was advised by his Department to give up her job and accept instead up to £70 a week from his Department in social security.
§ Mr. OrmeMy Department regards as confidential the details of individual social security cases but I can assure the hon. Member that urgent inquiries are being made to ensure that the family in10W question is receiving all the social security benefits to which it is entitled. It would not be possible for any family to increase its income through supplementary benefits by the wife giving up full-time work.
