HC Deb 14 April 1978 vol 947 cc540-1W
Mr. R. C. Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will have urgent talks with British Airways and other interested bodies with a view to reducing scheduled fares on the major European air routes; and whether he will refer this matter to the Price Commission.

Mr. Clinton Davis

International air fares are outside the scope of the Price Commission. They have to be approved by the Governments at both ends of each route and cannot be changed unilaterally. Fares between this country and Europe are being closely studied by the Civil Aviation Authority in collaboration with British Airways and the other British carriers concerned.
