§ 37. Mr. Durant
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his Department treats men more advantageously than women in social security matters.
§ Mr. Orme
Some aspects of social security legislation are particularly favourable to men, while others benefit women. The Government's views on the subject of the equal treatment of men and women in social security were explained in the debate on the European Commission document NOR/48/77 on 13th December 1977—[Vol. 941, c. 423–54]—and in the debate on the Fourth Report of the Lords Select Committee on the European Communities on 24th January 1978 in another place.—[Official Report, House of Lords; Vol. 388, c. 311–32.]
