Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) if he will compare the statutory minimum hourly and weekly rates of pay for farm workers in each of the nine member States of the EEC in units of account and £ sterling for, the latest date for which figures are available in all member States;

(2) if he will compare the average annual earnings of farm workers in each of the nine member States of the EEC expressed in units of account and £ sterling for the latest date for Which figures are available in all member States.

As I explained to the hon. Member in a reply on 6th February 1978—Vol. 943, c.457–8]—such comparable information as is available on the earnings of farmworkers in member States of the EEC is contained in the Eurostat report "Earnings in Agriculture 1975". This report, which is available in the Library of the House, does not extend to statutory minimum hourly and weekly rates or to average annual earnings.
