§ Mr. Viggersasked the Secretary of State for Defence how many staff of Flag Officer Submarines will be moving from Gosport to Fleet Headquarters at Northwood; how many staff of Flag Officer Submarines will remain at Gosport; and what will be their function; and why some staff of Flag Officer Submarines will be moving from Gosport to Northwood, while some of the staff of Flag Officer Submarines will not he moving to Northwood.
§ Mr. Duffy:Flag Officer Submarines and his operational staff of 65 officers, ratings and civilians will be moving to Fleet Headquarters at Northwood, leaving a staff of 92 at Gosport; the latter 695W will be concerned mainly with submarine engineering tasks. The transfer will overcome difficulties caused by the geographical separation of the operational staff of Flag Officer Submarines from Fleet Headquarters, Northwood. To locate the whole of Flag Officer Submarines' staff at Northwood would be expensive and, though desirable, is not essential.
