§ Mr. Geoffrey Finsbergasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made in converting Somerset House into a permanent gallery for a Turner exhibition; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Shore:Last year Sir Hugh Casson was commissioned to report on the feasibility of providing in the restored Fine Rooms of Somerset House, without prejudice to the building, the controlled physical conditions necessary for the proper conservation of works of art. If the trustees of the national institutions concerned agree to display—and deposit for study—works by Turner, then I am willing to have carried out the measures proposed in that report.
