HC Deb 26 October 1977 vol 936 c788W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of successful prosecutions during the first nine months of 1977 at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court for attempting to smuggle pets into Great Britain at Heathrow Airport; what was the total amount of the penalties imposed; and what are the comparable figures for the first nine months of 1975 and 1976, respectively.

Mr. John:

Information for 1975 is not available. The figures requested for 1976 and 1977 are as follows:

attend the Welsh primary schools and bilingual secondary schools in South, Mid and West Glamorgan and in Clwyd, respectively; and how many are anticipated to attend in September 1978.

Mr. Barry Jones:

The numbers of full time pupils in designated bilingual primary and secondary schools in the four counties in January 1977, the latest date for which information is available, are as follows:

County Primary Secondary
Clwyd 2,278 2,329
Mid Glamorgan 3,029 1,659
South Glamorgan 962
West Glamorgan 1,469 1,214

These figures are those for pupils attending bilingual schools in mainly English speaking areas. In Clwyd there are, in addition, a number of schools in mainly Welsh-speaking areas in which the sole or main medium of instruction is Welsh, but which are not designated as bilingual schools.

It is not possible to estimate how many pupils will attend designated bilingual schools in September 1978.
