HC Deb 29 November 1977 vol 940 cc187-8W
Miss Maynard

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many of the 144,000 discharged from the Army since 1970 were discharged as a result of custodial sentences given by civil courts.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

Centralised records have only been kept since the beginning of 1973. These show that since then 529 soldiers have been discharged as a result of custodial sentences imposed by civil courts. This represents rather less than half of one per cent. of the total number of soldiers discharged from the Army during this period.
