§ Dr. John CunninghamIt is not illegal to illuminate signs during daylight hours. The Electricity (Advertising Lighting) (Control) Order 1974 and the Electricity (Advertising Lighting) (Control) (Northern Ireland) Order 1975 lapsed on 30th November 1976. From 1st December 1976 voluntary codes of practice were agreed with four groups of trade organisations, comprising 27 trade associations, representing the main users and suppliers of advertising lighting. Observance of these 63W codes will help to promote the sensible and efficient use of energy. The onus of observance rests with the members of the trade associations.
