HC Deb 23 November 1977 vol 939 cc797-8W
Mr. Rossi

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether his Depart- ment will conduct a survey of land holdings by local authorities in England Wales which will provide answers to the following questions: (a) how much land each local authority owns which is either not developed or not being developed, (b) how much land each local authority owns which it has no firm plans to develop for the next five years, and for what reasons that land is being held, and (c) what was the cost to each local authority in 1976–77 of interest charges on undeveloped land.

Mr. Freeson

My policy, at a time when we are restraining public expenditure, is to keep to a minimum the burden on local authorities of requests for detailed information.
