§ 25. Mr. Pardoeasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he proposes to ensure the lifting of the building embargo imposed by the South West Water Authority as a result of lack of public investment in sewerage at Bude and Wadebridge and thereby assist the construction industry in North Cornwall.
§ Mr. MarksBuilding embargoes are imposed by the planning authority, but it gets advice from the water authority about the availability of water services. The problems at Bude and Wadebridge are a matter for the water authority to sort out with the local authority concerned in the light of overall priorities. I understand that existing planning permissions would allow some development to go ahead despite these embargoes.
