asked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the total amounts paid in redundancy payments in 1976, and the monthly total paid in 1977 to date, with the amounts paid by the employers, and by his Department.

The following information relates to employers in respect of whom payments—including rebates to employers and direct payments to employees—were made from the Redundancy Fund, in the periods shown. Figures for October 1977 are not yet available. Amounts are given to the nearest £1,000.

the programme as a whole it is estimated that about 43 per cent.of jobs are filled by young people aged 16–18 and a further 30 per cent. are filled by young people age 19–24.

The Commission would welcome further applications from potential sponsors in the Gateshead area.
