§ Mr. Wrigglesworthasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether he will review the operation of Section 6 of the Fair Trading Act 1973, in the light of the danger of market dominance by certain retailers.
§ Mr. John FraserThe operation of this section will be considered in the general review of the legislation announced in the Queen's Speech. Although retailing is generally extremely competitive, the buying power of large retailers is currently being investigated by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission in the course of a general reference on discounts to retailers which my right hon. Friend made in July.
