§ 48. Mr. Dykesasked the Secretary of State for Social Services why the invalid care allowance is not paid to disabled married women.
§ Mr. Alfred MorrisIt is for the reason that invalid care allowance is a non-contributory maintenance benefit for men and single women of working age who are potential breadwinners and who stay at home to look after a severely disabled relative receiving attendance allowance. Disabled married women of working age may be eligible for invalidity benefit or the new non-contributory invalidity pension for married women incapable of normal household duties. They may also be eligible for attendance allowance and mobility allowance.
