§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton
asked the Secretary of State for Employment what redundancy payments are being withheld from shipyard apprentices on the completion of their four-year apprenticeship where there are no jobs 595W available in the local yards; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Golding
No redundancy payments are being withheld. Rebates from the Redundancy Fund are payable to employers making redundancy payments to employees who have a statutory entitlement. In the case of apprentices who have completed a fixed term of apprenticeship there may be no such entitlement.
