HC Deb 17 November 1977 vol 939 c357W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many workers were employed in the woollen textile trade in 1970; and how many are employed now.

Mr. Golding

The number of employees in employment in Great Britain in the woollen and worsted industry at June 1970 and June 1977 were 134,000 and 85,400 respectively.

The figure for June 1970 has been taken from the series of employment estimates on a continuous basis, which allows for discontinuities. The figure for June 1977 is provisional.
