HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 c121W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what powers already exist for children's panels to compel parents to pay for damage caused by their children; and how much has been paid under such compulsory powers, as opposed to voluntary restitution, in the last 12-month period for which figures are available.

Mr. McElhone

Children's hearings have no powers to compel parents to pay for damage caused by their children, but in some cases hearings may suggest in the course of discussion with parents that some voluntary reparation might be appropriate.
